India
Arriving in Bombay before dawn, I felt everything was surreal. I could not quite make sense of anything or see clearly. Being driven to a hotel through dense smoke, passing people sleeping on the street, on a curb, or bathing by a street side water spigot I was overcome with sights, smells, and the fullness of life awakening on the other side of the car windows. Throughout my time in India I found the life on the streets to be so visually compelling that I just wanted to wander forever. School children in parks would ask us for autographs, and we never figured out why. But like so much of India I experienced, it was genuine, sweet and open to strangers.
